Hello everyone,

I wanted to thank you all for the love and support shown in this group and apologise for my absence over the last couple of months. Without going into too much detail, I have sadly suffered a bereavement of someone very close to me, and so many things in my personal life have taken a hiatus. Including this incredible movement. However, behind the scenes there has been some movement and I have recently met with a charity commission organisation to support me in opening donations for our cause. In other news, the incredible Darcy and Luna Designs has collaborated with us on a beautiful card in Penny's honour. I want you to know that myself and Trustees are slowly picking things up again and to watch this space for plenty more pigeon love and how we are going to be moving forward.

Hello all!

I’m a 16 year old living in the uk and I love pigeons!

I rescued one who was hit by a van, he made a full recovery and is now (hopefully) living freely. I wanted to know, is there any way I can help to rescue local pigeons?

Hello Olive! Great to hear about the pigeon you rescued. I have been handfeeding orphaned baby birds since I was a child, and honestly the best way to help out is to get well known in your local community as everyone's go-to girl when a pigeon is in need. So many folks see an animal in distress and bring them in, put them in a box, with a bit of bread or cereal, and hope... If they know there's someone they can take it to with a bit of knowledge to improve it's chances of survival, they're going to take it!

I read the Amateur Naturalist by Gerald Durrell, too, which helped a lot, plus you've got us all here at P'sP.A to ask questions, and trust me, there's no such thing as a silly question. Watch out for ticks on disoriented pigeons (actually one of my very first cases was a fledgling collared dove with a tick who happily made a full recovery) There will be heartache, but it's worth it to know you've made a difference to a little life. Good luck Olive! Your flock is all around you 🐦

Hi everyone! Here is my story-

My name is Maddie. I started a small business and a not offical non profit called Pigeon Patroll ( I still spell Patroll with 2 L’s), to help birds when I was 8 years old. I started Pigeon Patroll at my old home in Layton, Utah in 2020.

Early in the year of 2020, there were two pigeons that started to come around everyday. I named them Molly and Peter. In February 2020, we figured out that Molly and Peter had built a nest between two of our huge plant pots. Molly had laid two perfect and white eggs.

The eggs hatched and I named the two baby pigeons Cuckoo and Coco Puff. Everyday I would sit in front of the glass door and watch the pigeons for hours. I wrote everything I learned from them in a journal. Watching Cuckoo and Coco Puff…

Hey Maddie, Pigeon Patroll sounds amazing! I love the bird magnets you're making, and it's great that you've been able to raise so much money for bird charities ❤️ 🙂

Wow! What an amazing story in the news and that's how I find myself here. As a child I was freaked out by pigeons and it was amazing to me that they are now my favourite bird. They way they problem solve, their funny walk, their little heads bobbing back and forth, love 'em!

Over the years we've had a few pigeons who've fallen down our chimney (it's now capped!) and I was amazed that I could get over my fear and rescue them. Some were fine, one or two needed extra care and time, one didn't make it....

My favourite definitely was the crazy one who made it all the way down and started flying around my living room!

My saddest moment was seeing a juvenile pigeon in distress in the garden, after some love and care the poor thing still passed away but at least he was cared…

I have recently added several bird and bee feeding stations to my garden. Amongst my daily bird visitors I have a flock of 6 to 8 wood pigeons who are so serene as they wander around my garden - all the birds are beautiful but these chunky darlings are lovely to see and listen to.

I also love to see them wandering on the lawn or cooing on the fence. Love them all.

In August 2021 I found a baby pigeon in my garden. She'd clearly fallen from her nest as she wasn't even ready to fledge. I couldnt find her nest and as she was so tiny I cared for her believing I was just making her comfortable for a few days. However with lots of attention and baby parrot formula she began the thrive. It was an amazing experience for my Son. As she followed him everywhere, he became her personal trainer. She build up her strength and eventually fledged. As she was so healthy I let her go free. She returned twice a day for food and was always there when I came home from work. She'd come into the house like a returning child from school! She stopped coming one day. I hoped she was okay, I'll never know. What I do know, pigeons are beautiful and intelligent and…

How lovely and what a privilege.

Hi all, I live in London and I used to hate pigeons. I have a balcony and the pigeons would poo all over it - I spent a lot of money on pigeon deterrents but none of them worked. Over time, I began to admire how intelligent and resilient pigeons are, and I started to see things from their perspective; they were just trying to live a life in this city, like me, and needed somewhere safe to sleep and nest. I now really love pigeons and hate hearing people say unkind things about them. Pigeons are beautiful; their markings, their cooing, everything. I was so touched by Hannah's friendship with Penny, and I'm really glad this charity exists! Where can I buy the 'every dove deserves love' tee?!

And I’m pleased you came around to embracing pigeons. As you say, they are just trying to live their lives, just like the rest of us ❤️

Here in the small market towns of Suffolk, we don't have feral pigeons, but we do have lots of lovely Wood Pigeons who are also persecuted. They are such beautiful and loving birds, we have a few pairs who nest in our garden bushes and trees. There soft lovely cooing on their nest is so soothing and such a delight. We keep a wide diversity of native plants in our garden to help and encourage birds and wildlife in general.

Out here in Norfolk they get huge to. My Mother used to call them low flying bombers! They don't have much of a better reputation in the countryside. Their problem is they're so resilient and good at adapting.
